The story of the Lucky Horseshoe takes place in England of the 10th century when St. Dunstan (a blacksmith at the time) was visited by Satan himself. The hoofed devil demanded custom horseshoes to be made before taking the blacksmith’s soul. And so, Dunstan took his chance and nailed a red hot horseshoe tightly on one of his hooves, and the devil howled in pain, begging for mercy. Saint Dunstan agreed to remove it under one condition - The devil must respect the Horseshoe and stay away from protected bodies and grounds.
